Your first song
You will need a chord-sheet PDF with selectable text (up to 4 MB) and ProPresenter 7 to use the exported file. Sign in to ProChords when prompted.
- Import
Open the editor, leave Detect chords selected, and choose your PDF.
- Check and edit
Compare the lyrics, chord positions, and sections with your original chart.
- Preview and export
Check the slide preview and arrangement, then choose Export .pro.
AI verification and service connections are optional. You can complete the workflow with a PDF and manual review.
Follow the full walkthroughImport a chord sheet
From your computer
- Open the editor and find Import a PDF.
- Keep Detect chords selected for chords above the lyrics. Choose Lyrics only if you want to import without chords.
- Select Choose PDF, or drag your file onto the import area. When it finishes, your song opens in the editor.
Use the original digital PDF where possible. Scans and photographs do not provide the selectable text needed for import.
From a service plan
Under Import from a service, choose Planning Center or Elvanto. If the connection is available for your account, connect it and allow access when prompted.
- Planning Center: choose a service type, plan, song item, and PDF attachment.
- Elvanto: choose a service, song, and PDF attachment.
Choose Import PDF to open the chart. This brings a PDF into ProChords; exported files are downloaded to your computer.
Already have a ProPresenter song?
On the editor start screen, select Choose .pro. Load your ProPresenter song, then add chords manually or import them from a matching PDF. Review the matches before continuing; the lyrics, sections, and slide breaks come from the .pro file.
Edit lyrics and chords
The editor puts chords above the words they belong to. On a wide screen, song controls sit beside the editing area and slide preview. On smaller screens, look under More editor actions for additional tools.
- Correct a lyric
- Click in the lyric line and type. Press Enter to split it at the cursor. Use the line controls to add, move, or remove a line.
- Add or edit a chord
- Place the cursor in a lyric, then use Add chord. Type a chord such as G, Em7, or D/F♯ and press Enter. Click an existing chord to change it; Escape cancels the edit.
- Move a chord
- Drag a chord above the correct word. You can also focus a chord and use the left and right arrow keys to move it one character, or Shift plus an arrow to move it five characters.
- Remove a chord
- Focus the chord and press Delete or Backspace. Use Undo if you remove it by mistake.
- Change the key
- Use Key (transposes) to change the song’s key and transpose its chords. Detect key from chords can help identify the starting key. Check the result against the key your musicians will play.
Undo and redo: use the toolbar buttons. Keyboard shortcuts are Cmd/Ctrl + Z to undo and Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + Z to redo.
Update the title at the top of the song controls. Open Song details for tempo and other song information.
Review your import
Check every imported song against its PDF, especially repeated sections, instrumental lines, and chord changes close together. Import warnings highlight places that need a closer look.
Use optional AI verification
- If your account includes it, choose AI Chord Verification. It compares the song with the original PDF and can suggest lyric and chord corrections.
- Open Review suggestions. Compare the source PDF, your current line, and the proposed correction.
- Apply a correction only when it matches the chart. Keep your current version or edit the line yourself when the suggestion is wrong. Use Undo to reverse an applied change.
You make the final call.
AI suggestions are not applied automatically, and a completed check is not a guarantee of accuracy. Verification uses your original PDF with an AI service. If a check fails, you can continue editing and exporting.
If you edit a line after verification, its suggestion may become out of date. Review your current edits and verify again when needed. If asked to attach a source, choose the exact original PDF.
Arrange sections and slides
Put the song in service order
Click a section label to open its settings. Set its type, add lines or sections, and use the move controls to reorder sections. You can also drag sections in the editor.
Use Arrangement to set the order the exported song plays. Add a section more than once to repeat it, and use the up and down controls to move each occurrence.
Example: Verse → Chorus → Verse → Chorus → Bridge → Chorus. Repeating a chorus in the arrangement lets you reuse the same section.
Choose where slides break
Set Lines per slide for the song, or open a section’s settings to adjust it individually. Use the slide-break controls for a specific split. A section with manual breaks can return to automatic grouping with Auto-group.
Read through Slide Preview after arranging. Check long lines, section transitions, repeats, and blank slides before exporting.
Export to ProPresenter
- Check Export review, your arrangement, and the slide preview. Resolve anything that does not match the source chart.
- Choose Export .pro. Find the downloaded file in your browser’s downloads.
- Open the downloaded file in ProPresenter 7. Run through the slides and check both your audience output and stage layout before using it in a service.

The .pro file includes chord data while keeping audience slides lyrics-only. To show the chords on stage, choose a ProPresenter stage layout that displays text with chords. See Renewed Vision’s stage-screen guide for layout setup.
After editing a song in ProChords, export it again to use the updated version in ProPresenter.
Save and return to a song
ProChords saves as you edit. Wait for Saved before leaving the editor. If you see Unsaved changes or Needs attention, read the message and resolve it first.
Open Library or Your songs to return to saved work. The start screen may also show Continue editing for your last song.
- Songs saved in this browser
- Local songs belong to this browser on this device. Clearing site data or using a different browser can make them unavailable. Export copies you want to keep.
- Songs saved to your account
- Cloud saving depends on your account’s access. Sign in to the same account to return to those songs. Check Billing for your access, and keep an eye on the save status if your connection drops.
Want to write from scratch? Enable songwriting in Settings, then use Start writing on the editor start screen. Original songs can also be exported as a PDF chord sheet.
Troubleshooting
Find the situation that matches what you see.
My PDF will not import.
Use a PDF with selectable text, up to 4 MB. Open it in a PDF viewer and try selecting a lyric. If the page is a scan or a photo, get a text-based PDF from your chart source. A password-protected or damaged file may need to be exported again. If the app reports a temporary limit, wait for the time shown before retrying.
A chord is missing or in the wrong place.
Compare the line with the original chart. Click the chord to correct its name, drag it above the right word, or place the lyric cursor and use Add chord. Instrumental rows and tightly spaced charts deserve a manual check even when no warning appears.
AI verification is unavailable or failed.
AI verification requires eligible account access and the original PDF. Follow any sign-in, access, or retry message shown. You can still edit, check the chart yourself, and export. If the PDF is missing, attach the exact original when prompted; a different chart needs a new import.
A suggestion cannot be applied.
A suggestion may no longer match your edits, may lack usable source evidence, or may need individual review. Compare the source and current line, then edit manually or run verification again. Changes that remove words or chords can be held out of bulk apply so you can review them one at a time.
I cannot see my service or its PDFs.
Check that you connected the right Planning Center or Elvanto account and can access that service there. Select a song with a PDF attachment. Reconnect if prompted. If the connection is unavailable, download the chart from your planning tool and use Choose PDF in ProChords.
The stage screen shows lyrics without chords.
First check that the song has chords in the ProChords editor and export it again after any changes. In ProPresenter, use a stage layout that displays embedded chord data with the slide text. The audience slides are intentionally lyrics-only; a Chord Chart image object is a different feature.
My song says “Needs attention” instead of “Saved.”
Keep the editor open and read the save message. Reconnect to the internet or sign in again if requested, then choose Retry save. If another version was saved, Keep my edits saves your current work over that version; Load saved version replaces your current edits. Export a .pro copy before choosing if you want to preserve the current song.
